Rare Tumors , 2010, DOI: 10.4081/rt.2010.e7
Abstract: Hibernoma is a rare benign tumor considered to arise from remnants of fetal brown adipose tissue. It tends to occur in sites where brown fat persists beyond fetal life, such as the interscapular region, but can occur in sites where brown fat is usually absent in adults. Clinically, hibernomas are slow-growing, asymptomatic tumors. However, unlike lipomas, MRI findings sometimes mislead clinicians to diagnose a malignant neoplasm. We describe a 63-year-old male with an axillary hibernoma involving the brachial neurovascular bundles and mimicking a well-differentiated liposarcoma, from which it should be distinguished.

Abstract: We report here a case of epithelioid sarcoma in the forearm of a 33-year-old male presenting with symptoms and signs of carpal tunnel syndrome originating from the direct involvement of the median nerve. Due to the slow growing of the tumor, the patient noticed the presence of tumor mass in his forearm after several months from the initial onset of the symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an 8×4 cm mass involving the median nerve in the middle part of the forearm, and histological analysis of the biopsy specimen revealed the diagnosis of epithelioid sarcoma. Radical surgical resection was performed in conjunction with adjuvant chemotherapy. The function of the flexors were restored by the multiple tendon transfers (EIP→FDS; ECRL→FDP; BrR→FPL; EDM→opponens) with superficial cutaneous branch of radial nerve transfer to the resected median nerve. The function of the affected hand showed excellent with the DASH disability/symptom score of 22.5, and both the grasp power and sensory of the median nerve area has recovered up to 50% of the normal side. The patient returned to his original vocation and alive with continuous disease free at 3.5-year follow-up since initial treatment.

Abstract: Extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is rare and metastasis to the pancreas is extremely rare, with only four cases reported in the literature. The therapeutic effectiveness of chemotherapy remains uncertain. We report a 39-year-old man with extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the buttock, who had metastases to the pancreas, bones, and lung. He underwent distal pancreatectomy, resection of the buttock tumor, and chemotherapy. He had a good response to chemotherapy and survived for about 3 years after surgery. 1. Introduction Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm characterized by a biomorphic pattern of poorly differentiated small round cells and islands of well-differentiated hyaline cartilage. This tumor has a widespread distribution. The craniofacial bones (especially the jaw bones), ribs, ilium, and vertebrae are the most common sites. One-fifth to one-third of the lesions are extraskeletal, primarily affecting the somatic soft tissues [1]. Metastasis to the pancreas is extremely rare, with only four cases reported in the literature [2–6]. We herein report a 39-year-old man with extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the buttock, with metastasis to the pancreas. 2. A Case Report A 39-year-old man presented with a 4-month history of severe upper abdominal pain after drinking alcohol. The patient denied any significant past medical or surgical history. Physical examination did not reveal any abdominal mass, and laboratory data including tumor markers (CEA, CA19-9, and DUPAN-2) showed no abnormalities. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed a well-circumscribed, low-attenuation, inhomogeneously enhancing mass measuring about 5?cm in diameter in the body and tail of the pancreas. There were no signs of invasion of the surrounding tissues or dilatation of the distal pancreatic ducts. The CT findings were not typical for pancreatic cancer (Figure 1(a)). CT also showed a well-circumscribed, heterogeneously enhancing mass measuring about 8?cm × 3?cm in the left buttock (Figure 1(b)). Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen showed a well-circumscribed mass measuring 4.5?cm in diameter in the body and tail of the pancreas. The mass was hypointense with punctate hyperintense areas on T1-weighted images and slightly hyperintense on T2-weighted images and showed inhomogeneous enhancement with gadolinium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid on T1-weighted fat-suppression images (Figure 1(c)). The radiological differential diagnosis included neoplasm of the endocrine pancreas and solid pseudopapillary tumor. Magnetic resonance
The Use of Informative Priors in Bayesian Modeling Age-at-death; a Quick Look at Chronological and Biological Age Changes in the Sacroiliac Joint in American Males
Kanya Godde
- , 2017, DOI: 10.3934/publichealth.2017.3.278
Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine how well different informative priors model age-at-death in Bayesian statistics, which will shed light on how the skeleton ages, particularly at the sacroiliac joint. Data from four samples were compared for their performance as informative priors for auricular surface age-at-death estimation: (1) American population from US Census data; (2) county data from the US Census data; (3) a local cemetery; and (4) a skeletal collection. The skeletal collection and cemetery are located within the county that was sampled. A Gompertz model was applied to compare survivorship across the four samples. Transition analysis parameters, coupled with the generated Gompertz parameters, were input into Bayes' theorem to generate highest posterior density ranges from posterior density functions. Transition analysis describes the age at which an individual transitions from one age phase to another. The result is age ranges that should describe the chronological age of 90% of the individuals who fall in a particular phase. Cumulative binomial tests indicate the method performed lower than 90% at capturing chronological age as assigned to a biological phase, despite wide age ranges at older ages. The samples performed similarly overall, despite small differences in survivorship. Collectively, these results show that as we age, the senescence pattern becomes more variable. More local samples performed better at describing the aging process than more general samples, which implies practitioners need to consider sample selection when using the literature to diagnose and work with patients with sacroiliac joint pain
Economic-Environmental Evaluation for Sugar Production in Thailand Using LCA Approach
V. Kanya,H. Phungrassami
Agricultural Journal , 2013,
Abstract: The objective of this study is to evaluate, as a case study, the economic-environmental evaluation, more frequently referred to as eco-efficiency, of a sugar production company in Thailand. The comparison of the eco-efficiency between raw sugar production and refined sugar production was the key objective of this study. Firstly, the inventory data collection of sugar productions, both raw and refined sugar, were collected on-site at the selected factory. Secondly, an environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of both sugar productions was carried out. The study was based on the Eco-indicator 99. Finally, the eco-efficiencies were compared. Overall, the results of the study show that the refined sugar production generated more environmentally harmful impacts than the raw sugar production and the eco-efficiency of raw sugar production was preferable to refined sugar production.

Accelerated Aging: The Role of Socioeconomic, Social, Demographic, and Biological Factors on Bone Mineral Density

- , 2019, DOI: 10.1177/0164027518816516
Abstract: We investigate socioeconomic, social, demographic, and biological variables that are associated with chronic stress in the body to assess whether they have an effect on bone mineral density (BMD) as an indicator of accelerated aging. Multiple regression models were derived from data in the Midlife in the United States: A National Longitudinal Study of Health and Well-Being, Waves 1 (1995–1996) and 2 (2004–2006). Three BMD variables were used as outcomes: femoral, femoral neck, and spine T scores. The sample included 333 men and women aged 34–80. Poverty and C-reactive protein were related to BMD for spine T scores, partially consistent with hypotheses. But, marital status, perceived support of a partner, and education were not associated. Friend strain was discovered to have a relationship with BMD. More variables, and from a broader context, need to be examined together to understand what affects reduced BMD, given the high costs of accelerated aging
EURO Based Currency Union: Motivation for Muslim Countries’ Economic Growth
Mohammad Naveed Ahmed,Kanya Hemman
International Journal of Business and Management , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/ijbm.v6n3p136
Abstract: In economics, a monetary union is a situation where several countries have agreed to share a single currency (also known as a unitary or common currency) among them, for example, the EURO currency. A currency union differs from an economic and monetary union, where it is not just currency but also economic policy that is pooled or coordinated by a region. This paper will look into the EURO currency based currency union to see whether it really improves the member countries economic performance or not, which might be the motivation for Muslim countries to organize a currency union for their growth. To do this research, the economic data are collected from the World Bank Development Indicators database.
